CLIMATE CHANGE
There is broad consensus among scientists from around the world that climate change is real and that it happenning more rapidly because of us. Climate science is complex but predictions are that under ‘business-as-usual', a globalised fossil-fuel intensive world, temperature rises of around 4 ° C are expected by 2100.
From this we can confidently expect reduced crop yields in the tropics, sea level rises and increases in flooding, more extreme weather events and at least a third of all species destined for extinction. More worryingly, the rapid rise in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere could set in motion large-scale and potentially abrupt changes in our planet's natural systems that may be irreversible.
Its very hard to predict exactly what will happen if we carry on as we are, click on the images to the right for a glimpse of what might happen with each degree of warming based on the extremely well researched six degrees book by mark lynas.
