Energy & Water
You need to take action to reduce your energy use where ever possible so that less of the planet's fossil fuels are burnt and so that your organisation can make savings on it's gas and electricity bills.
Simple steps could make significant energy savings that would reduce the environmental impact of your organisation and reduce your bills. For example a single computer and monitor left on 24 hours a day will cost over £50 a year. Switching it off out of hours and enabling standby features could reduce this by £15 a year and prolong the lifespan of the equipment. If you have 15 computers in your office, that's a saving of £225 per year! (source: The Energy Saving Trust).
The Sustaining Change programme can assist your organisation in reducing its energy use through an audit which would identify how energy is currently used. Accompanying training will assist you to take the necessary action to reduce your energy consumption and therefore cut the cost of your annual bills.
In the UK we are lucky enough to have an apparent abundance of water available to us whether it is for drinking or watering plants. However the process by which water is treated and purified is energy and resource intensive and for many organisations their water bills can have a significant financial impact on their operations.
The average person in England uses 150 litres of water every day and we now use 50% more water than 25 years ago. Whilst there may seem to be an abundance of water in the UK, especially in the North West, we actually have under half the amount of water per person compared to France, Italy or Spain (source: www.environment-agency.gov.uk).
It is estimated that one third of all water used in the UK is wasted. However simple actions can make a significant difference, for example fixing a dripping tap can save as much as 5000 litres of water a year (source: www.waterwise.org.uk). The Sustaining Change Programme can help you to identify ways in which your organisation can save water, reduce your water use and therefore reduce your bills and help conserve one of our most precious resources.
