Sustaining Change Questionnaire

Why Your Voice is Important

MERCi, one of Manchester's leading sustainability organisations, has been successful in securing funds to develop a stage 2 BASIS Lottery bid "Sustaining Change". The project will provide support for Voluntary and Community Sector organisations to become more engaged in the sustainability agenda and to help those wishing to move towards more sustainable income generation.

Your voice is important because we need you to tell us what problems and opportunities you can see in engaging in this arena. We will then be able to design a better project to meet your needs.

Why Sustainability?

Despite the growing awareness that Climate Change will affect every aspect of our lives, we are frequently confused as to what we can do and, therefore, often do nothing! However, the need for compliance is growing especially if targets on carbon emissions, energy conservation, waste management and the efficient use of non-renewable resources are to be met.

But it's not all sticks and no carrots: forward-looking businesses have been quick to grasp the links between social responsibility, environmental protection and business innovation to work smarter and gain a competitive advantage in the marketplace. It's a win-win outcome for all sectors: efficiency brings savings and helps to contribute to reducing our impact on the planet. Both Government and the Public Sector are now stepping up their sustainability plans, and closer to home Manchester City Council has launched its campaign to make Manchester the Greenest City in Britain.

The VCS and SE sector play a vital role in contributing to environmental, social and economic life of Greater Manchester and our environmental and financial strength is crucial if we are to respond to the impact of climate change on our organisations and the groups and communities we represent.
