The Community Fund distributes money raised by the National Lottery to support charities and voluntary and community groups throughout the UK and to UK agencies working abroad. The Community Funds main aim is to help meet the needs of those at greatest disadvantage in society and to improve the quality of life in the community.
The Esmée Fairbairn Foundation is one of the largest independent grant making foundations in the UK . The Foundation aims through its funding to improve the quality of life, particularly for people and communities that face disadvantage. They make grants in four areas:
The ERDF is one of the European Structural Funds. In England ERDF is managed by the Department for Transport, Local Government and the Regions. The ERDF was established with the aim of stimulating economic development in the EU's least prosperous regions. As the membership of the EU has grown, the ERDF has developed into a major instrument for helping to redress the main regional imbalances.
The European Social Fund is an important source of funding for activities to develop employability and human resources. It is used to add value to policies introduced to make a reality of the Government's objective of promoting employment opportunities for all in an inclusive society.
Manchester City Council make numerous grants available to voluntary groups and charities. The Chief Executive's Department co-ordinates grants to voluntary organisations, and community groups through the Voluntary Sector Policy and Grants Team.
New East Manchester Limited, established in October 1999, was the second Urban Regeneration Company to be created. The company is a partnership between national (English Partnerships), regional (North West Development Agency) and local government (Manchester City Council), with local communities playing a full part.
New East Manchester helped MERCi secure Single Regeneration Budget funds.
The Northwest Development Agency is responsible for the sustainable economic development and regeneration of England 's Northwest through the promotion of business competitiveness, efficiency, investment, employment and skills development.
In 1955 Sir Godfrey Mitchell endowed a charitable trust with a gift of shares in the building company George Wimpey. In 1979 this trust became known as the Tudor Trust. The proceeds of the sale support projects that increase people's capacity to cope, build their confidence and vision and give them greater control over their future. By supporting an independent and vibrant voluntary sector the Trust hope to unlock the potential that exists within communities, providing new opportunities to achieve lasting change.
